Hiphop Crib Interview

For the masses state your name and where you are from.
Conscious... Bronx, N.Y. The birthplace of Hiphop. (Seems we've abandoned the child).

When people tend to speak of Conscious, what do they say?
I can quite honestly say, I've only heard positive things. For the most part I hear that dude is doing his thing. He really looks out for people. He's a cool dude to be around.

No one person is liked by everyone. Even the greatest of leaders were hunted. So who takes aim at Conscious and why?
Only thing taking aim at me, right now is really not any human being. I'm dealing with a lot of adversity from that negative force in the universe in whatever form it may. Other then that, my Karma is straight. Not looking over my shoulders, my conscience is clean. Haven't done any dirt, to have to be worried about it.

Tell me more about Conscious the man. Where does the current Conscious come from? Were your parents like you. What circumstances in life, created the artist that we know today. Aight, let me make something profound and mysterious up. Let me tell you bout the 18 bullets I have in my left hand. About how I sustained life threatening injuries from being electrocuted by the third rail, while fighting the Greys on the subway tracks near ground zero on September 12th...Man. The current Conscious comes from what surrounds him. He represents the common man and what he's got going on in his mind but will not share. From either fear or from that fact that he has been conditioned to believe that it's pointless to speak to begin with. Parents were like me perhaps a lil' bit. How I've gotten to the point that I have I guess is that somehow I learned to open my mind and absorb things. Kinda analyze a lot of the things that most people don't bother to question. If you can't question something it's not worth believing. If you don't question anything you are simply a clone. A mere cog in this infernal machine. You determine whether or not in life you will affect change or be a number.

So with that said, do you believe in destiny...religion?
I believe in energy that puts life in my body. Man made religion. It has nothing to do with our existence. I also believe in the power of the wheat pancake.

Whole Wheat Pancakes
1 1/4 cups whole wheat flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
2 Tablespoon brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 Tablespoon of cinnamon
1 egg
1 1/2 cups of vanilla soy milk
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
Mix ingredients and pour onto griddle in pancake sized puddles.

hahahaha
Seriously... No white flour. The colon is full of crap and we all got something in there that needs to go.

Your music, I've heard only great things. It definitely doesn't follow any cookie cutters or trace patterns. But how would you respond to a hip-hop fan who thinks that you're just spittin' militant gibberish?
I wouldn't really. Jay [Jay-Z] asked if is niggahs just skim through music. I'd assume they did. If they didn't then well sorry for 'em. It's not my job to try and please them... Everything isn't for everyone. I think a lot of artists have that problem. They aren't really free with their own music and they allow things like that to bother them. Everyone is not on the same level of thinking. That level increases as you start really thinking on your own and get the preprogrammed things out of your brain. Some of those things are beneficial. It's up to the individual to find out what portions are toxic. And do away with them.

I agree. Sometimes Conscious can come off as somebody who thinks he's omniscient. Is that the case? And are people wrong for not sharing your worldly views?
Ha ha. Omniscient ? Ultimately I will be. Gonna take a while fore I can transcend this spacesuit. People aren't wrong for not sharing my views. Honestly, if we haven't experienced the same things how could they share my views. Unless you've faced similar situations. Or if you are open-minded enough to place another person’s shoes on or just plain ol' research what the topic is...Only thing is, you will respect my views. And respect me...You don't have to share. Be selfish...I got my own bag of candy. Don't want yours. I don't ask people for anything ...

I know Conscious is all about uplifting and doing good for the people. Talk about your contributions to the needy from the slums to the handicapped. Oppressed and unfortunate.
Okay. For the last few years I've done everything from workshops with children to performing for and speaking with the incarcerated. I think one of the most important things I've done though to reach more folks, has been doing a countless amount of venues, providing open mics all over New York for people to express themselves. I attempted to get people to understand the importance of using their right to use their voice. You really never know how simply speaking to another person can affect their lives. And that's adversely as well as on a positive note. Another thing though is I've pulled back from too much involvement with people for a minute. In attempts to build myself up . People can drain you. You have to balance yourself out. Also Everyone isn't always tryin' to get help. Some lurk and try and crumble what you build. I also feel that you need to be prepared when involving yourself with others. If you're not all good you can affect them adversely inadvertently.

What more will you do in the near future in terms of helping the needy.
A lot. I'll piece yah to this one thing though. ha ha. I own the domain bronxhiphop.com. Ultimately.. I intend on changing that to .org I want to start a non profit here in the Bronx...The focus of the site is to showcase the talents of Bronx artist.. But having those same artist contribute to making the place we reside in better. Still a lot of research I need to do as far as finding existing non profits in the Bronx and reaching out them to provide help in what they are doing. A good portion of the proceeds from Bronx hip-hop.com will go towards building and infrastructure for change here. For all those that want to make a difference importantly where they rest. I'm providing the opportunity. That's one project.. I hate typing in the box so you got a short... real description. I will continue to teach children and visit correctional institutions and most importantly educate the people around me and encourage them. The world has abused a lot of folks. And everyone is not equipped with the thick skin to withstand it.

That's true. So that brings me to my next question. Who or What is THE enemy?
Fear, Doubt, IGNORANCE, ANGER, CONFUSION, ENVY, Prejudice, Self Hate.

Seems like a lot of self-confidence issues.
Yeah. People lack it. If you have no confidence it's really hard to excel...

Conscious, you spoke of evolving beyond who you are. Could that translate into something political?
No...

Why not?
No office really not seeing the point of that? It doesn't fit into the scheme of things for me...Politics don't exists.. None of it is real..It's money based...Has nothing to do with us living as we inherently should be. and I wouldn't get involved with something that I believe should not exist to begin with...

When we started this interview, in a blurb you said that hip-hop has fallen off. Care to expound on that? And will the slide continue?
I didn't say that...I said Bronx, N.Y. The birth place of hip-hop. (Seems we've abandoned the child).

Well I misconstrued what you said. What did you mean by that?
Basically right now all we have representing us on a large scale. (No pun intended.Wow.) Is Fat Joe leaning back...The Bronx is strong! But people don't know it. It's our duty to get the word out not rely on sources that don't intend for that to happen...No complaining just street teams and urban campaigning! My friend Chuck Ceo of allhiphop.com wrote an article about The East in general in the Vibe Magazine;saying how it's like we're just not holding it down. And it's true. You got New York katz tryin' to sound like they're from down south...But that's a whole lottah more stuff I don't wanna even bother talking about...Basically, represent through making good music. Don't complain and do you !

With the worldwide acceptance of this subculture and the merging (or in some cases, mutating) forms of music, what do you predict the future of hip-hop to be. Will it be watered down into nothingness, or will it flourish into something mega?
I can't predict anything. Neither do I want to. Hip-hop is like an entity, one with erratic patterns of movement. There are multiple paradigms shiftin' right now. I don't know... what will be the result of them...I just live each day like it's my last.

What are your views of the music industry's war with the internet.
Ha ha...Man it's like an old dude that fell off and he's mad a younger kat is shinin'...Man. Karma is a Rottweiller with a serious grip. You know. I don't even have the words to quote. But it's been said by many of the Panther's, Malcolm X, King and various figures. The captives basically ain't gonna stand being captives forever...

Yesterday when I spoke to you, you expressed your displeasure with the current state of HipHopCrib.com's forums because of the lack of independent thinkers. How can you be so sure of that?
I'm not so sure of that...from the random sampling of what I see, I see a lot of cosigning. I can't make a total assessment but from what I've seen maybe a handful of people that think on their own but that's like a good amount of the sites I see anyway...What can you do? And the funny thing is you only take offense to things if they are remotely true...Because otherwise if things don't apply to you and they are not directed towards you, you wouldn't respond, unless you haven't reached that point in your life when you realize that you don't have to answer to everything...

We all will depart from this earth in one way or another. What can fit on our gravestones usually isn't enough. What will be the phrase that describes your life imprinted on your gravestone.
May not have one if I learn to transcend this body. If it will say anything...It will simply say...'He left'

As I wrap up this interview, is there anything you want to say that hasn't been asked?
No...Er uh buy one of my albums... and er uh open your mind. Enjoy music. Do you! And when you do anything in life, know why. Don't do it because someone's got yah mind and you have no control of yah movement. Yeah and get that crap outta yah colon.

Probably wanna try that flushing thing Usher does?
Herbs. Never get a procedure done if you can. Naturally get it done. You ain’t stickin no tube in me...No good braduh…

hahahaha. Thanks for the interview.
No doubt.
